GDF conducts community engagements in observance of 60th independence anniversary

    Published on

As part of activities commemorating Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary, units of the Guyana Defence Force have commenced a series of community engagement initiatives aimed at strengthening civil-military relations and fostering closer collaboration with residents across several hinterland and riverine communities.

Over the past week, ranks from the Force conducted outreach activities and engagements in communities within Regions One and Seven, as well as along the Pomeroon and Essequibo Rivers.

Communities visited included Kaikan, Aishalton, St John’s Mission, Hackney, Marlborough, Martindale, Bonasika, Saxacalli, Agatash and Karrou.

During the engagements, rank met with village leaders, residents, teachers and students to discuss issues relating to community welfare, security concerns, cooperation, and mutual respect between civilians and ranks operating within the various locations. Emphasis was placed on strengthening communication, maintaining professionalism, and building positive and productive relationships between the Force and the communities it serves.

The activities also featured interactive sessions with students of nursery and primary schools focused on promoting patriotism, civic responsibility, and national pride among the nation’s youth. In several communities, sports equipment was donated in support of youth development and recreational activities.

The engagements form part of the Guyana Defence Force’s continued commitment to national service, community partnership, and meaningful engagement with citizens during this significant national milestone.
