This announcement was made by outgoing Chairman Dr. Keith Rowley during the final day of the 48th Regional Heads of Government Meeting held in Barbados on February 21, 2025.

Key points of the GCB’s statement:

    1. The GCB expressed great pleasure with President Ali’s appointment, citing his demonstrated love for cricket and significant investments in the sport’s development across Guyana.
    2. The board believes Dr. Ali’s appointment will greatly enhance the prospects for improvement in West Indies cricket, both on the field and at the administrative level.
    3. Sir Clive Lloyd, a renowned cricketing icon, publicly supported Dr. Ali’s appointment, praising the President’s special skills and commitment to cricket development.
    4. The GCB highlighted Dr. Ali’s impressive investments in equipment, academies, stadiums, grounds, and overall cricket development across Guyana.
    5. The board expressed confidence in Dr. Ali’s astute leadership, cricket knowledge, and commitment to fair play, believing he will strongly influence the upliftment and general improvement of West Indies cricket.
