‘Digital Guyana’ Initiative Accelerates with Citizen Portal and AI Platform

    Published on

Guyana’s ambitious digital transformation is moving from vision to reality as the government actively implements the ‘Digital Guyana’ agenda, featuring a comprehensive Citizen Portal and an agentic AI platform designed to revolutionize public service delivery.

President Irfaan Ali, speaking at a recent press conference, outlined how the initiative aims to build a smarter, safer, and more connected nation. The Citizen Portal, set for imminent launch, will serve as a single gateway for all government services—including passport and licence applications, tax filings, health and education records, and utility payments—accessible via both web and mobile devices. This platform is designed to remove bureaucratic hurdles, making tasks like doing business or accessing state services faster and more efficient for every citizen.

Supporting the portal is AskGov, an AI-powered assistant available 24/7 to answer queries and guide users through government transactions. This agentic AI will help citizens complete tasks such as renewing licences, checking application statuses, or requesting documents, all from the comfort of their homes. The AI platform is part of a broader strategy to bring Guyana’s public services in line with global digital standards, ensuring convenience, transparency, and responsiveness.

The digital transformation extends beyond the portal and AI assistant. The government is rolling out a national e-identification (E-ID) system, with biometric ID cards designed to reduce identity theft and streamline access to services. These efforts are complemented by the development of a sovereign AI cloud for secure onshore data storage, and an integrated 3D Geographic Information System (GIS) to digitize and monitor the country’s physical infrastructure in real time. This GIS tool will support smarter planning, faster emergency response, and more efficient utility management.

President Ali emphasized that the digital agenda is not just a plan, but a living project already reshaping governance, business, and daily life. The government is also focused on cybersecurity, digital equity, and financial inclusion, integrating the Citizen Portal with banks and fintech platforms to provide faster access to financial services, particularly for underserved communities.

With these initiatives, Guyana is positioning itself as a regional leader in digital transformation, aiming to bridge the digital divide and ensure that citizens in both urban and remote communities benefit from modern, accessible, and secure e-government services. Over the next five years, the ‘Digital Guyana’ project is expected to cement the country’s place as a digital nation for all, enhancing the quality of life and supporting sustainable development.
