CGTN – China’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday slammed a senior EU official’s comments that China, Russia, Iran, and the DPRK are forming “an autocratic alliance” to challenge the rule-based world order as “very wrongful and irresponsible.”

The statements made by the relevant EU official are filled with ideological bias, lack basic historical common sense, and blatantly stoke rivalry and confrontation, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a press conference. “It’s a disrespect to the history of World War II and harms the EU’s own interests.”

Guo’s comments were a rebuke to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, who said on Wednesday that “while Western leaders gather in diplomacy, an autocratic alliance is seeking a fast track to a new world order.”

Guo stated, “Only by remembering history can we truly uphold peace.’

He said that China hosted the events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War to remember history, honor fallen heroes, cherish peace, and build a better future. The goal is to jointly defend the victorious outcomes of World War II and the post-war international order with all peace-loving countries worldwide.

The events, held on Wednesday, were attended by 26 foreign heads of state and government, more than 20 high-level representatives of foreign governments and heads of international organizations, and over 100 diplomatic envoys from other countries, including 19 European nations.

“We have participation from five continents around the world. The participation is very representative. That clearly shows the international community has wide recognition of the historic contribution of China’s war of resistance and its world significance as well as the common aspiration and determination to safeguard world peace and stability,” Guo added.

In the current volatile and turbulent international landscape, what the world needs, now more than ever, is solidarity and cooperation, the spokesperson said.

Europe, where World War II was unleashed, is expected to have a much deeper understanding of the lessons of history and the importance of unity,” he said.

Guo said, “However, some EU leaders have been clinging to Cold War mentalities and strong ideological biases, deliberately creating division and confrontation. This does not serve the EU’s own interests and will further damage its reputation and influence worldwide. We hope some in the EU will let go of their prejudice and arrogance, adopt a correct historical perspective on World War II and a rational view of China, promptly correct false statements, erase negative impacts, and work towards a more peaceful and stable world, fostering sound China-EU relations rather than the opposite.”
