163 Individuals Earn International Certifications in TVET Fields Through WIIN Programme

    Published on

A total of 163 individuals have achieved international certifications in various Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) fields under the Women’s Innovation and Investment Network (WIIN) programme. The milestone was celebrated during a ceremony held in Georgetown, where graduates were recognized for their accomplishments and contributions to Guyana’s workforce development.

The WIIN programme, an initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, aims to empower individuals—particularly women—through skills training and certification in market-relevant fields. Participants underwent rigorous training in areas such as electrical installation, plumbing, graphic design, garment construction, and information technology. The certifications are internationally recognized, enabling graduates to access employment opportunities both locally and abroad.

Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud congratulated the graduates, emphasizing the programme’s role in fostering economic independence and reducing unemployment. “This is about equipping our people with the tools they need to succeed in a competitive global environment,” Dr. Persaud stated. “The skills acquired through WIIN are not just transformative for individuals but also for the communities they serve.”

The programme has been particularly impactful in creating pathways for women to enter traditionally male-dominated fields such as construction and engineering. Many graduates expressed gratitude for the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and certification that will enhance their employability.

“This certification means everything to me,” said one graduate who completed training in electrical installation. “It’s a stepping stone to building a better future for myself and my family.”

The WIIN initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance human capital development across Guyana. Since its inception, it has provided thousands of individuals with access to free training, mentorship, and resources aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and career growth.

As the programme continues to expand, officials have pledged to introduce additional training modules tailored to emerging industries such as renewable energy and digital technology. The government remains committed to ensuring that Guyanese citizens are equipped with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy.

The success of the 163 graduates underscores the transformative impact of initiatives like WIIN on individuals and communities alike. With their newly acquired certifications, these professionals are poised to contribute meaningfully to Guyana’s development while carving out brighter futures for themselves.
