In a significant boost to Guyana’s skilled labor force, 138 graduates from the Berbice Institute of Technology (BIT) have successfully completed their training and are now entering the workforce, marking another milestone in the institution’s contribution to national development.

The recent graduation ceremony, held at the BIT campus, celebrated students who completed various technical and vocational programs designed to meet the evolving needs of Guyana’s growing economy. Courses ranged from electrical engineering and information technology to construction and mechanical maintenance, equipping graduates with practical skills aligned with industry demands.

BIT’s Director, Mr. Andrew Ramnarine, emphasized the institute’s pivotal role in preparing a competent workforce capable of supporting key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, energy, and infrastructure development. “Our mission is to provide quality technical education that empowers individuals and drives economic growth. These graduates are ready to make meaningful contributions to Guyana’s progress,” he stated.

The institution’s focus on hands-on training, industry partnerships, and continuous curriculum updates ensures that students graduate with relevant skills and certifications. Many of the new graduates have already secured employment or apprenticeships with leading companies, reflecting the strong demand for skilled technicians nationwide.

Government officials attending the ceremony praised BIT’s efforts in addressing the country’s skills gap, highlighting the importance of technical education in achieving sustainable development goals. “Investing in human capital is essential for Guyana’s future. BIT is playing a crucial role in equipping our youth with the tools to succeed and support our nation’s transformation,” remarked a senior Ministry of Education representative.

As Guyana experiences rapid economic growth, particularly in sectors such as oil and gas, infrastructure, and technology, the demand for skilled professionals continues to rise. Institutions like BIT are at the forefront of meeting this demand, ensuring that the workforce is prepared to seize new opportunities and contribute to the country’s prosperity.

With this latest cohort of graduates, BIT reaffirms its commitment to fostering national development through quality education, innovation, and community engagement. The institute looks forward to continuing its role as a catalyst for growth and a beacon for technical excellence in Guyana.
