More than 12,000 additional citizens are set to benefit from the government’s $100,000 cash grant initiative, following the approval of $3 billion in supplementary funds by the National Assembly.
The announcement was made on Friday by senior government officials, who highlighted the administration’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and stimulating economic activity across the country. The supplementary funding will allow the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security to extend the grant to thousands of eligible individuals who were previously not included in earlier phases.
This latest allocation comes amid growing demand for financial relief as families continue to grapple with the rising cost of living. The cash grant program, first introduced in 2023, has already provided direct support to tens of thousands of households, helping them meet essential needs such as food, utilities, and school expenses.
Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “This cash grant is a lifeline for many families. The additional funds will ensure that no one is left behind as we work to build a more inclusive and resilient society.â€
Disbursement of the grants is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with priority given to low-income households, single parents, and persons living with disabilities. The Ministry has urged all eligible individuals to ensure their information is up to date to facilitate a smooth distribution process.
The government’s move has been widely welcomed by community leaders and advocacy groups, who praised the continued focus on social protection and poverty alleviation. Officials have assured the public that the process will be transparent and closely monitored to prevent abuse.
As Guyana’s economy continues to grow, the administration has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the benefits of development reach every citizen, especially those most in need.
