Fatal Crash Claims Two Lives on Linden-Soesdyke Highway

Adventure, Linden-Soesdyke Highway â€“ Two men from West Berbice lost their lives early Monday morning after the car they were travelling in collided with a minibus along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.

The victims have been identified as 40-year-old Kowmalram Ramin of West Coast Berbice, who was driving the car, and his passenger, 29-year-old Fitzgerald Authur Carter of Rosignol, West Berbice. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:10 a.m. in the vicinity of Adventure, a section of the highway currently under reconstruction.

According to police reports, the minibus, driven by 32-year-old Immanuel Dorris of Mackenzie, Linden, was heading north while the car was proceeding in the opposite direction. The minibus driver told investigators he noticed the car approaching at a high speed. As the car entered the roadwork area, Ramin reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to skid into the path of the oncoming minibus.

Despite the minibus driver’s attempt to brake, a collision was unavoidable. Both Ramin and Carter were extracted from the wrecked car and transported to the Linden Hospital Complex, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been taken to the hospital mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.

Several passengers in the minibus, along with the driver, sustained injuries and were also taken to the Linden Hospital for observation. Police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and are reminding motorists to exercise extreme caution, especially in areas where roadworks are ongoing.

The tragic accident underscores the dangers posed by speeding and the need for heightened vigilance on sections of the highway undergoing repairs.
