    Published on

DEPUTY Commissioner ‘Administration,’ Ravindradat Budhram, emphasized the vital importance of community engagement, coordination, and leadership in creating safer neighborhoods. At a Recognition Ceremony organized by the Community Relations Department (CRD) at the Police Officers’ Mess Annexe on Tuesday, he stressed the significance of law enforcement’s partnership with youth programs and professional acknowledgment initiatives.

During the event, Deputy Commissioner Budhram presented a trophy to an outstanding youth leader from Region Five, showcasing the commitment to recognizing local talent and leadership. He acknowledged the challenges that law enforcement faces, such as resource limitations and unit cohesion, and encouraged a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and humility to enhance community support and leadership.

The ceremony began at 9:00 AM with interfaith prayers and the National Pledge, honoring Regional Community Relations Officers and Scout Leaders for their unwavering dedication and service. Woman Superintendent of Police, Ms. Leslyn Smith, who oversees the CRD, highlighted the department’s expanding efforts to improve police-community relations. She pointed out that this initiative, which started 11 years ago, has evolved into a nationwide program, officially establishing the CRD in June 2022.

In the past year, the department has significantly ramped up its community outreach activities, increasing from 2,130 in 2023 to 3,174 in 2024. This surge includes the creation of youth and school groups, alongside strengthened partnerships with various community stakeholders. Superintendent Smith reiterated the CRD’s commitment to expanding outreach, enhancing social media engagement, and improving data analysis to effectively measure the impact of their initiatives.

As a testament to their exceptional contributions, Scout Leaders and Regional Community Officers were awarded certificates and trophies during the ceremony. It concluded with a Vote of Thanks, marking another significant step in the CRD’s mission to foster stronger police-community relationships and promote a safer, more unified society.
