Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a man wanted in connection with the murder of 61-year-old Aubrey Richardson, who was fatally shot during a robbery at a popular shop in Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, last August.
The suspect, whose name has not yet been officially released by police, was reportedly apprehended following months of investigation and a public appeal for information. Richardson was attacked on August 24, 2024, while conversing with a friend at the shop. According to police reports, two men entered the establishment posing as customers before brandishing a firearm, holding Richardson at gunpoint, and shooting him in the back. The assailants then robbed the shop owner and fled the scene.
Richardson succumbed to his injuries on September 5, 2024, sparking a widespread manhunt for the suspects. In October, police issued wanted bulletins for Antwan Sampson, 20, of Kaneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara, and Samuel Browne, 23, of Yarrowkabra, Linden-Soesdyke Highway, seeking information on their whereabouts.
The arrest marks a significant development in the case, which has drawn public attention and calls for justice from the victim’s family and the wider community. Law enforcement officials have reiterated their commitment to ensuring all those involved are brought to justice and have encouraged anyone with further information to come forward.
