Police officers from Regional Division 4 ‘C’ recovered an unlicensed 9mm pistol and eight matching rounds of ammunition during an early morning operation in Ann’s Grove Village, East Coast Demerara, on Tuesday.
The incident unfolded around 3:00 a.m. when ranks on patrol noticed a man acting suspiciously while riding an electric cycle. Upon spotting the police, the individual quickly dismounted and fled the scene on foot, abandoning both the cycle and a bag in his haste.
A subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of the unlicensed firearm and ammunition, which were promptly taken into custody along with the electric cycle. The items have since been lodged at the Cove and John Police Station as investigations continue.
Law enforcement officials are actively searching for the suspect, who remains at large. The latest seizure adds to a growing tally of illegal firearms recovered by police this year, underscoring ongoing efforts to curb gun-related crime in the region.
Residents of Ann’s Grove have expressed concern over the incident, calling for heightened patrols and continued vigilance to ensure community safety. Police have reiterated their commitment to pursuing those involved in illegal firearm possession and urge anyone with information to come forward as investigations progress.
