A security guard has been remanded to prison after being charged with attempted murder in connection with a violent altercation in Georgetown. The accused, 34-year-old David Pierre Junior of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
The charge stems from an incident on December 30, 2024, during which Pierre allegedly attacked Anand Ramkissoon with intent to commit murder. Police reportedly obtained video footage showing Pierre committing the act, and he admitted during questioning that he had chopped Ramkissoon. However, Pierre claimed the footage was incomplete and argued that he acted in self-defense after being attacked and chopped multiple times.
During his initial court appearance on January 4, 2025, bail was denied due to the seriousness of the charge and Ramkissoon’s critical condition at the time. In a subsequent hearing, Pierre was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 but pleaded for a reduction, citing financial constraints. Magistrate McGusty denied his request, emphasizing the severity of the allegations against him.
Pierre remains in custody as investigations continue. The case is scheduled for further proceedings later this month. This incident highlights concerns over violent crimes and raises questions about self-defense claims in cases involving severe injuries.
