    Published on

A man who was the subject of multiple police investigations for murder and a string of armed robberies was shot dead by law enforcement officers yesterday in Onderneeming, bringing an end to a months-long manhunt that had left communities on edge.

According to police sources, the suspect had been evading capture for several weeks, moving between various locations along the Essequibo Coast. Acting on a tip-off, officers launched an operation in the early hours of the morning to apprehend him. Upon arrival at a residence in Onderneeming, the suspect reportedly opened fire, prompting officers to return fire.

The exchange left the suspect fatally wounded. Emergency services were called to the scene, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. No officers were injured during the operation.

Residents of Onderneeming expressed relief at the resolution of the case, noting the fear that had gripped the community during the suspect’s time on the run. The police have since recovered a firearm believed to have been used in several of the robberies under investigation.

Authorities say the incident will be subject to a routine review, but initial reports indicate that officers acted in accordance with established protocols. The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety and have urged anyone with information about criminal activity to come forward.

The identity of the suspect has not yet been released pending notification of family members. The investigation into his alleged crimes remains ongoing.
