Man Pleads Guilty to Robbery Under Arms, Breaking and Entering, Larceny

A Georgetown man has pleaded guilty to a series of serious charges, including robbery under arms, breaking and entering, and larceny, following his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Monday.

Jermaine Hollingsworth, whose case has drawn significant public interest, admitted to the offences in a packed courtroom. The charges stem from a string of incidents in which Hollingsworth was accused of forcibly entering properties and stealing valuables, as well as committing an armed robbery.

According to the facts presented in court, Hollingsworth was apprehended after a police investigation linked him to multiple break-ins and a reported armed robbery. The prosecution detailed how the accused used force and intimidation during the commission of these crimes, resulting in the loss of property and distress for the victims.

During the proceedings, Hollingsworth expressed remorse for his actions and did not contest the charges. His legal representative requested leniency, citing his willingness to accept responsibility and cooperate with authorities.

The magistrate, in accepting the guilty plea, emphasized the gravity of the offences and the impact on the affected individuals and the wider community. Sentencing has been deferred to allow for the preparation of a probation report, with the court expected to deliver its decision in the coming weeks.

The case has reignited conversations about public safety and the consequences of property-related crimes in Guyana. Law enforcement officials have reiterated their commitment to tackling robbery and burglary, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

Hollingsworth remains in custody as he awaits sentencing, with authorities signaling that the outcome of the case will serve as a warning to others contemplating similar criminal acts.
