Man Charged After Attempting to Remove Impounded Motorcycle from Police Station

    Published on

Sherwin Benjamin, a 37-year-old businessman from South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, has been detained and charged after being accused of unlawfully removing an impounded motorcycle from the Amelia’s Ward Police Outpost. The incident occurred on March 19 and has since drawn significant attention due to the audacious nature of the act.

According to police reports, the motorcycle, a black and grey Skylar without a license plate, was impounded earlier that evening and lodged at the outpost. Surveillance footage and witness accounts revealed that a white open-back vehicle with a “ON TEST†license plate pulled into the compound shortly after. The vehicle reportedly carried two men in the front and three boys in the back tray.

One of the men allegedly exited the vehicle, loaded the motorcycle onto it despite being warned by a police constable that the bike could not be removed, and then drove away. Witnesses claim that one of the individuals involved dismissed the officer’s warning, stating, “I don’t have time; the police can do what they wanna do.â€

The motorcycle was recovered later that night, but it took nearly two weeks for authorities to locate and impound the vehicle used in the removal. On March 29, police found the vehicle in possession of another individual who claimed to have borrowed it from its owner.

Benjamin turned himself in to police on April 2 at the Mackenzie Police Station after being sought for questioning. He is currently in custody as investigations continue into his role in what authorities are calling an unauthorized removal of property from a secured facility.

This incident has raised concerns about security protocols at police outposts and prompted calls for stricter measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Further legal proceedings are expected as law enforcement works to determine whether additional charges or arrests will follow.
