A dispute rooted in a lingering grudge ended in tragedy on Monday night, as a labourer lost his life after a fatal confrontation with a fisherman at Moleson Creek in Region Six.
The deceased, identified as 38-year-old Gavin Daniels—known locally as “Talk to Meâ€â€”reportedly attempted to force his way into the fisherman’s residence around 8:00 PM. According to eyewitnesses and neighbours, Daniels was seen kicking at the fisherman’s door, an action that immediately drew alarm from those nearby.
The fisherman, a 23-year-old resident of Jackson Creek, responded to the commotion by contacting a neighbour who then alerted others and phoned the police. What began as a tense standoff quickly escalated when Daniels and the fisherman became embroiled in a physical altercation outside the house.
Neighbours recounted that attempts were made to separate the two men, but the fight flared up again moments later on the roadway. It was during this resumed scuffle that Daniels reportedly collapsed and was left motionless while the fisherman fled the scene. Daniels was subsequently transported to Skeldon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Preliminary information suggests that the two men had a longstanding feud dating back to Father’s Day, when an argument during a drinking session reportedly turned physical. Police have arrested the fisherman as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The tragic turn of events has sparked fresh concern among Moleson Creek residents, who say that conflicts fueled by old grievances and alcohol consumption remain a persistent community challenge. As authorities proceed with the investigation, calls are growing for mediation efforts and renewed focus on preventing similar incidents in the future.
