    Published on

A 24-year-old gold miner from Albouystown, Georgetown, was arrested on Sunday, May 2, 2025, after police at the Itaballi Police Checkpoint in Region Seven found 12 grams of suspected cannabis in his possession.

Pitamber Singh was stopped during a routine search of a motor vehicle and its occupants. Upon inspection, police discovered the cannabis concealed on his person. Singh was immediately cautioned, informed of the offence, and taken into custody.

He is currently held at the Bartica Police Station, awaiting formal charges as investigations continue. The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the illegal possession and trafficking of controlled substances in the interior regions.

The Itaballi Checkpoint remains a critical point for police operations targeting drug-related offences, reflecting the authorities’ commitment to maintaining law and order in the mining communities and surrounding areas.
