A Georgetown man has been remanded to prison after being charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking, following a recent operation by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU).
The accused, Olrick Fingal, appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday. He was charged with having 3.8 kilograms of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking, an offence allegedly committed on May 16, 2025, at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown.
According to CANU, the operation was launched after officers received information about suspected drug activity in the vicinity of the Royal Hotel on Mandela Avenue. During the operation, Fingal was intercepted and subjected to a search. Officers reportedly discovered eight parcels containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis. In addition to the drugs, a CZ pistol and 19 rounds of live ammunition were also found in his possession.
Fingal denied the allegation in court. Magistrate Azore refused bail, and Fingal was remanded to prison until his next court appearance scheduled for June 16, 2025. The investigation into the case is ongoing, and it remains unclear if Fingal will face additional charges related to the firearm and ammunition found during the operation.
CANU has reiterated its commitment to aggressively pursuing drug traffickers and removing illegal firearms from the streets, urging the public to continue providing information that could assist in ongoing investigations.
