A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) officer has found himself in legal trouble after being charged with assault and using threatening language. The incident, which has drawn significant attention, underscores the importance of accountability among members of the armed forces.
The accused, 31-year-old Kevin France of Lot 8 Public Road, Grove, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. He faced two charges: one for assaulting a woman and another for using threatening language toward her. The alleged incident occurred on March 31, 2025, at Grove Public Road.
France pleaded not guilty to both charges. Following his plea, he was released on $30,000 bail for the assault charge and $10,000 bail for the charge of using threatening language. The court has adjourned the matter until May 8, 2025.
