A construction worker has been remanded to prison after being charged with fraud involving a significant sum of money. Sheldon Roach, 44, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge of misappropriation.
The allegation states that between April and September 2024, Roach was entrusted with $500,000 by Samantha Hermonstine to purchase five doors, plywood, and materials for constructing kitchen cupboards. However, it is claimed that Roach misappropriated the funds for his personal use instead of fulfilling the agreement.
The prosecution revealed that Roach had been difficult to locate and allegedly evaded both law enforcement and Hermonstine’s attempts to contact him. Following an investigation, he was arrested and brought before the court.
Given the seriousness of the allegations, Roach was remanded to prison pending further hearings. The case has raised concerns about trust in contractual agreements and highlighted the need for vigilance when engaging service providers.
The matter is scheduled for its next hearing later this month as investigations continue.
