Bail Reduced for Alleged Serial Thief in Multi-Million-Dollar Theft Case

    Published on

Georgetown, Guyana – A 31-year-old man accused of being a serial thief in a series of high-value thefts has secured a significant reduction in his bail, following an appearance before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Monday.

The defendant, Travis Payne, who faces ten charges related to theft and firearm offenses, initially had his bail set at $50,000 per charge. Payne pleaded with the court, stating that his family could not afford the total sum. In response, Magistrate Azore reduced the bail to $25,000 per charge but later consolidated it further to $150,000 overall after Payne reiterated his financial constraints.

Payne is accused of stealing items including high-end iPhones, gold jewelry, and perfumes between May and October last year. The stolen goods are estimated to be worth nearly $1.9 million. Additionally, he is charged with discharging a loaded firearm at a Detective Corporal with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Despite the gravity of the allegations, Payne has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

This is not Payne’s first run-in with the law. He was previously convicted in 2019 for armed robbery, discharging a firearm, and escaping police custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 28 as investigations and legal proceedings continue.

The case has drawn public attention due to Payne’s alleged involvement in multiple high-profile thefts and his history of criminal activity. Authorities remain vigilant as they work to ensure justice is served in this multi-million-dollar theft case.
