    Published on

A major breakthrough in a high-profile murder case occurred early Wednesday morning when police apprehended Hosea Fraser, also known as Hosea Selmon, the prime suspect in the fatal shooting of Mark Anthony Benjamin in Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.

Fraser, 28, was captured during a targeted police operation in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) at approximately 2:40 a.m., just over 24 hours after the deadly incident. The swift arrest followed an intense manhunt launched by the Guyana Police Force after a wanted bulletin was issued for Fraser.

The fatal altercation took place on Tuesday evening at around 6:40 p.m. on Norton Street, Bagotstown. According to investigators, Fraser and Benjamin, who were known to each other, became embroiled in a heated argument that quickly escalated. During the confrontation, Fraser allegedly produced a firearm and shot Benjamin in the head before fleeing the scene.

Public-spirited citizens rushed the wounded Benjamin to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is currently at the Memorial Gardens Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police officials have confirmed that Fraser’s arrest marks a significant step forward in the investigation, and detectives are now preparing to lay formal charges. The Guyana Police Force has reiterated its commitment to pursuing justice in the case and ensuring that those responsible for violent crimes are held accountable.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Bagotstown community, with residents expressing both relief at the suspect’s capture and concern over the escalation of violence. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the ongoing case.
