The Guyana Police Force has assured the public that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing into the death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge, whose body was found in the swimming pool of the Double Day Hotel at Tuschen on April 24. Police officials, including Commissioner Clifton Hicken and two Deputy Commissioners, recently met with the family’s legal team to reaffirm their commitment to a thorough and transparent probe.
During the meeting, lawyers representing Adriana’s family expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of concrete updates, stating that many of their questions about the investigation’s direction, the status of forensic tests, and the handling of evidence went unanswered. The police advised the legal team to submit their questions in writing to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
Authorities confirmed that biological and water samples from the hotel pool have been sent overseas for advanced forensic analysis, including toxicology, histopathology, and DNA testing at facilities in the United States. The official autopsy report and toxicology results remain pending, and a second autopsy requested by the family has not yet materialized.
The police emphasized that all leads and evidence are actively being pursued, with senior oversight to ensure impartiality. The investigation has also led to administrative actions against several officers and hotel staff for lapses and neglect during the initial response. The hotel owner has been blacklisted from leaving the country as the probe continues.
Adriana’s family, who have postponed her funeral, continue to call for transparency, international collaboration, and answers as they seek closure in the high-profile case.
