Brandon Cummings and Fatima Gani emerged as the standout champions this past weekend during the 2024 National Indoor Youth Open, hosted by Archery Guyana at the National Gymnasium. This event aimed at highlighting emerging archery talent in the country saw these two young archers excel among their peers.
In the Barebow Under-15 Men’s category, Brandon Cummings clinched the gold medal, outperforming Daniel Cox and Christopher Cooblall, who secured silver and bronze, respectively. Meanwhile, Fatima Gani took home the gold in the Barebow Under-15 Women’s category, with Samiyyah La Cruez finishing in second place and Summayyah Karim in third.
The Barebow Under-18 Men’s event was won by Saifullah Gani, who faced a tough competition from Samuel George.
Archery Guyana’s President, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, expressed her satisfaction with the event, stating, “The event was a resounding success, with youth archers demonstrating remarkable skill and sportsmanship in a high-energy atmosphere.†She also highlighted the live streaming of the competition, which allowed fans, coaches, and supporters to engage with the event in real time. The use of IANSEO, a well-known scoring software, ensured that results were updated accurately and promptly, adding to the excitement for both athletes and spectators.
The tournament featured thrilling matchups across various categories, showcasing the exceptional talent and determination of young archers. Ryan McKinnon, the Director of Shooting, along with the Results Management Team led by Results Manager Saeed Karim, ensured that the operations ran smoothly throughout the event.
The competition received support from several sponsors, including the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the National Sports Commission, the Guyana Olympic Association, and Guyana Beverages Inc.
