West Indies Championship: Guyana Harpy Eagles Head into Round 7 with 6.2-Point Lead

    Published on

The Guyana Harpy Eagles (GHE) are heading into the seventh and final round of the West Indies Championship 2025 with a narrow 6.2-point lead at the top of the standings. After securing a fighting draw against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes last Saturday, GHE managed to extend their advantage over closest rivals Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, setting up a thrilling conclusion to the season.

As it stands, the Harpy Eagles lead the points table with 102.6 points, followed closely by Red Force at 96.4 points. Barbados Pride occupies third place with 78 points, while the Hurricanes sit in fourth with 71.8 points. Jamaica Scorpions round out the top five with 59.8 points, following their recent victory over Red Force.

The final round begins on Wednesday, April 9, and will see GHE face off against Red Force at Queen’s Park Oval in what is being dubbed a virtual final. With only one team able to claim the coveted Headley Weekes Trophy, both sides will be under immense pressure to deliver strong performances in this decisive clash.

Other matchups for Round Seven include Jamaica Scorpions taking on Combined Campuses and Colleges at Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground in Trinidad; West Indies Academy battling Windward Islands Volcanoes at Coolidge Cricket Ground; and Leeward Islands Hurricanes facing Barbados Pride in a day-night encounter at Warner Park in St Kitts and Nevis.

The Harpy Eagles have been consistent throughout the competition, boasting four wins and one draw from six matches. Their ability to perform under pressure has been key to maintaining their lead in a fiercely competitive tournament. However, Red Force remains a formidable opponent, having also secured four wins this season and displaying strong form across multiple venues.

With everything on the line in Round Seven, fans across the Caribbean are eagerly anticipating an exciting finish to the West Indies Championship. The outcome of these matches will determine which team emerges as champions and claims bragging rights as the top cricketing side in the region for 2025.
