Guyana’s Under-23 3×3 basketball team has arrived in Paraguay, where they are set to participate in a prestigious High-Performance Training Camp aimed at sharpening their skills and preparing them for upcoming international competitions.
Led by Head Coach Darcel Cameron, the squad is joining elite young players from across the Americas in a week-long intensive program organized by FIBA, the sport’s global governing body. The camp, held in the capital city of Asunción, brings together top talent for specialized training sessions, tactical workshops, and friendly matches designed to elevate the standard of 3×3 basketball in the region.
Coach Cameron expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, highlighting the importance of international exposure for Guyana’s rising stars. “This camp is a fantastic chance for our players to learn from some of the best coaches and athletes in the hemisphere,†Cameron said. “We’re here not just to improve our game, but to represent Guyana with pride and to build connections that will benefit our basketball program for years to come.â€
The Guyanese delegation will participate in a series of drills focusing on speed, agility, shooting accuracy, and defensive strategies specific to the fast-paced 3×3 format. Off the court, players will engage in leadership and team-building exercises, as well as seminars on sports nutrition and mental resilience.
The High-Performance Training Camp is part of FIBA’s ongoing efforts to promote 3×3 basketball globally, with a special focus on youth development and competitive readiness ahead of major events like the FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup. Guyana’s participation underscores the country’s growing commitment to the sport and its ambition to compete at the highest levels in the Americas.
As the camp unfolds, Coach Cameron and his squad are determined to make the most of every session, hoping to return home with new skills, greater confidence, and a renewed drive to take Guyanese basketball to new heights.
