Regional and International Tournaments to Be Held in Essequibo – Minister Ramson Jr.

    Published on

In a significant development for sports in Guyana, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. has announced plans to host regional and international tournaments in Essequibo. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance Guyana’s sporting infrastructure and promote sports tourism across the country.

Minister Ramson emphasized the importance of developing Essequibo as a hub for sports events, leveraging its potential to host a variety of competitions. The region’s inclusion in the national sports development plan reflects the government’s commitment to decentralizing sports activities and fostering growth in all regions.

The announcement follows recent investments in sports infrastructure, including the renovation and construction of stadiums and community grounds nationwide. Minister Ramson highlighted the success of Guyana’s athletes in 2024, with a record number of international medals won, and expressed his vision for further growth in the sports sector.

By hosting regional and international tournaments in Essequibo, Guyana aims to attract more visitors and boost local economies through sports tourism. This initiative aligns with the government’s goal of positioning Guyana as a premier destination for sports events in the Caribbean, capitalizing on its natural beauty and growing infrastructure to host diverse competitions.

The upcoming events are expected to bring significant economic benefits to the region, while also providing opportunities for local athletes to compete at higher levels and gain international exposure. As part of this effort, the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport is working closely with sports associations and local authorities to ensure that Essequibo is well-equipped to host these events successfully.
