One Guyana Basketball Premier League: Action Resumes This Weekend

    Published on

The One Guyana Basketball Premier League is set to reignite the courts this weekend as the nation’s top basketball teams return to action following a brief mid-season break. The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) in Georgetown will serve as the epicenter of excitement, with a packed schedule of high-stakes matchups that promise to showcase the best of Guyanese basketball talent.

Saturday’s fixtures will see the Panthers take on the Amelia Wards Jets, while the Bounty Colts face off against the Kings from Linden. The evening’s action will culminate with the North Ruimveldt Ravens—last season’s defending champions—squaring off against the Kobras in what is expected to be a fiercely contested encounter.

The momentum continues into Sunday, with the Plaisance Guardian meeting the Victory Valley Royals, the Black Caimans challenging the Bounty Colts, and the Ravens returning to the court to battle the Block 22 Flames. With 22 teams split between the Jaguars and Harpy Eagles Conferences, the league is entering its crucial second phase, and every game could prove pivotal in the race for the championship.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the National Sports Commission, the league is slated to conclude in May 2025. Teams are vying for substantial cash prizes and the coveted championship trophy, adding further intensity to the competition.

The One Guyana Premier League, which began in December 2024, has been hailed as a transformative initiative for the sport in Guyana, uniting talent from across the country and setting the stage for what many hope will become a model for Caribbean basketball. As action resumes this weekend, fans can expect thrilling contests, emerging stars, and a renewed sense of national pride on the hardwood.
