One Guyana 3×3 Quest Begins Today with International Basketball Action

    Published on

The highly anticipated One Guyana 3×3 Quest tips off today at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown, marking a historic milestone for basketball in the English-speaking Caribbean. Featuring 19 teams from across the globe, this inaugural tournament promises two days of intense competition and world-class talent.

Specialist basketball teams from countries such as Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and the United States will compete alongside three local Guyanese teams for the grand prize of USD $5,000 and a coveted spot in the prestigious FIBA 3×3 World Tour in Edmonton, Canada, later this year. Despite Grenada’s late withdrawal, the event remains one of the largest international basketball tournaments ever hosted in Guyana.

Tournament organizer and Vice President of the Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF), Rawle Toney, expressed excitement about the event’s significance. “This weekend is the biggest 3×3 tournament to ever be held in Guyana and the English-speaking Caribbean,” Toney remarked. He highlighted the presence of top-ranked teams such as Lausanne from Switzerland, ranked seventh globally, and Carolina from Puerto Rico, one of the world’s best squads.

Players and teams began practicing on Friday ahead of today’s opening games. Puerto Rico’s Antonio Ralat, ranked 47th globally, shared his confidence and enthusiasm for competing in Guyana. “We’re excited for both—the cash prize and the opportunity to participate in the World Tour. Every tournament we play, we play to win,” Ralat stated.

Action begins at 10:00 a.m. today and continues through Sunday evening when the finals will be held. Teams will battle not only for first- to third-place cash prizes but also for international recognition in this fast-paced and growing format of basketball.

The One Guyana 3×3 Quest represents a significant step forward for sports development in Guyana, showcasing its ability to host major international tournaments while promoting grassroots basketball growth. Fans can expect thrilling matches as some of the world’s best players take to the court in pursuit of glory.
