The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS), in collaboration with DStarr out of the United States and the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), will commence a three-year Elite Programme with a clear focus on preparation for the Olympic Games 2028.
This announcement was made on Saturday afternoon as Ministers of Sport, Charles Ramson Jr and Steven Jacobs met with AAG President Sheryl Hermonstine, athletes and Coaches at the National Track and Field Center (NTFC), West Coast Demerara (WCD).

Through the initiative, Guyanese athletes and coaches will be exposed to international-standard training, biomechanics and scientific performance measurements aimed at improving results and longevity in sport. The programme will also include structured nutrition guidance, social media monitoring and monetisation opportunities for athletes, international certification for coaches, as well as modern strength and conditioning programmes supported by upgraded equipment and technical expertise.

Importantly, this new Elite Programme will be led by local coaches, ensuring sustainable knowledge transfer and long-term development within Guyana s sporting ecosystem.
During the fruitful meeting during the third staging of the AAG s 2026 CARIFTA trials, the Ministers also had the opportunity to meet with and encourage athletes preparing for the upcoming CARIFTA Games, while bringing them up to speed on the opportunities that will be available through this new Elite Programme.
The Minister noted that they remain committed to creating pathways that allow Guyanese athletes to compete, excel, and succeed on the world stage as we continue our journey toward Olympics 2028.
