    June Madness Futsal Championship Kicks Off with 48 Teams Battling for Top Honours

    The much-anticipated MCYS/Ansa McAl June Madness Futsal Championship officially kicked off this week, bringing together 48 of Guyana’s best futsal teams in a high-stakes, knockout-style tournament that promises weeks of electrifying action and fierce competition.

    Launched at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, the championship is organized by the Kashif and Sanghai Organisation and powered by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport alongside Ansa McAl Trading. The event boasts a prize pool of $5 million in cash and incentives, with the ultimate champions set to take home $2 million. Runners-up, third, and fourth-placed teams will receive $1 million, $500,000, and $250,000 respectively, along with individual awards for standout performances.

    The tournament format features matches on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with the opening and final nights hosted at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and the remaining fixtures at the National Gymnasium. The opening ceremony included a march-past of all participating teams, followed by a series of five matches that set the tone for the competition.

    Sixteen top teams from the previous December-January National Futsal Championship—such as Sparta Boss, Back Circle A and B, Road Warriors, North East, Z Tekk, Ballers United, and Bent Street A and B—received byes into the Round of 32, underscoring the depth and quality of the field.

    The championship is more than just a contest for silverware and cash; it serves as a vital platform for players to showcase their skills, maintain peak fitness, and earn a livelihood through sport. Organizers have also expressed ambitions to use the momentum from this event to revive international futsal tournaments in Guyana, inviting top teams from across the Caribbean and South America in the future.

    With the tournament running until June 28, fans can expect intense matchups, dramatic upsets, and a celebration of futsal talent as teams vie for national glory and a share of the lucrative prize pool.
