Guyanese Among 14 Boxing Promoters from Ten Caribbean Countries to Form Regional Group

    Published on

In a landmark move for Caribbean boxing, fourteen promoters from ten countries—including Guyana—have joined forces to establish a new regional body aimed at revolutionizing the sport’s promotion, coordination, and growth across the region.

Among the founding members is Guyana’s own Seon Bristol, head of Bris-O Promotions and a respected figure in the boxing community. The group’s formation follows months of virtual and in-person meetings, culminating in a consensus to create a unified platform that will standardize event organization, increase visibility for Caribbean boxing, and foster greater collaboration among promoters.

The newly formed alliance brings together promoters from diverse territories, including Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, St. Lucia, Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, Suriname, and Guyana. Their collective vision is to streamline the process of staging regional and international boxing events, ensuring that fighters have more opportunities to compete at higher levels while fans enjoy a more consistent and professional experience.

Key objectives of the group include:

    • Standardizing rules and regulations for regional events
    • Coordinating calendars to avoid scheduling conflicts
    • Pooling resources for marketing and sponsorship
    • Facilitating the development of young boxing talent
    • Advocating for greater investment in the sport

Seon Bristol, speaking on behalf of Guyana’s contingent, emphasized the significance of the initiative for both athletes and promoters. “This is a game-changer for Caribbean boxing. By working together, we can elevate the sport, attract new sponsors, and give our fighters the exposure they deserve,” Bristol said.

The formation of this group comes on the heels of Guyana’s impressive performance at the 2025 Caribbean Boxing Championship, where the nation’s boxers clinched the overall title and showcased the depth of local talent. With the new promoters’ alliance, stakeholders are optimistic that the region will see more high-profile events, better opportunities for boxers, and a stronger presence on the international stage.

The group is expected to announce its first major collaborative event in the coming months, signaling a new era for Caribbean boxing and reaffirming the region’s commitment to sporting excellence.
