Guyana’s Under-14 girls’ football team is set to compete in Tier II of the 2025 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) U14 Challenge Series, which will take place in Trinidad and Tobago from August 15 to 24.
The CFU announced this week that 23 member associations will participate in the girls’ edition of the tournament, with eight teams contesting Tier I and 15 teams battling in Tier II. Guyana has been drawn into Group C of Tier II, where they will face the Cayman Islands, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, and Turks and Caicos Islands.
The Tier II competition is structured into three groups of five teams each. Teams will play each other once in a round-robin format. The three group winners will advance to the Tier II semi-finals, joined by the second-placed team with the highest points total across all groups. The top group winner will face the best second-placed team in one semi-final, while the other two group winners will contest the second semi-final.
Tier II matches will kick off on August 15, with Tier I action beginning a day later. The official match schedule is expected to be released soon.
Launched in 2018, the CFU U14 Challenge Series is a key developmental tournament for the region, providing young players with their first taste of international competition. The series is designed to support the CFU’s and FIFA’s grassroots football development agendas, while also offering training opportunities for referees and match coordinators through the CFU’s Next Generation Referee Course.
As Guyana’s young footballers prepare for this important regional challenge, the tournament promises to be a valuable stepping stone in their sporting development and a showcase for emerging talent from across the Caribbean.
