Guyana Women continued their impressive run in the CWI Women’s T20 Blaze, securing a commanding seven-wicket victory over the Windward Islands Women in a rain-affected contest at Arnos Vale on Saturday. The match was reduced to 13 overs per side due to persistent showers, but Guyana’s spinners made the most of the conditions, dismantling the Windwards’ batting lineup.
Batting first, the Windward Islands struggled to find momentum, finishing on 61 for 9. Guyana’s spin trio-Nyia Latchman (4-8), Ashmini Munisar (2-10), and Sheneta Grimmond (2-16)-shared eight wickets and allowed only two boundaries in the innings. Only Japhina Joseph (17), Nerissa Crafton (14), and captain Zaida James (13) managed to reach double figures.
In response, Guyana overcame the early loss of Munisar (run out for 1) thanks to a steady 54-run partnership between Realeanna Grimmond (30 off 29 balls) and Shabika Gajnabi (unbeaten 26 off 31). Despite a brief wobble with two wickets in the 12th over, Gajnabi guided Guyana home with six balls to spare, finishing on 65 for 3.
The victory keeps Guyana unbeaten in the tournament, while the Windward Islands continue to search for their first win after another disappointing batting display.
