Guyana, Jamaica Set for High-Stakes Showdown in T20 Blaze Championship Final

    Published on

The stage is set for an electrifying finale as Guyana and Jamaica clash today for the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s T20 Blaze championship at the Arnos Vale Ground in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The much-anticipated match, scheduled to bowl off at 14:30 hrs, brings together the tournament’s two top teams in a rematch loaded with recent history and high stakes.

Guyana enters the final with a point to prove, having suffered their only defeat in the preliminary phase at the hands of the defending champions, Jamaica, just two days ago. In that encounter, Jamaica’s disciplined bowling attack, led by off-spinner Vanessa Watts who claimed 4 for 13, restricted Guyana to 83 for 9. Captain Shemaine Campbelle was the standout for Guyana with a gritty 32, but the side struggled to build momentum against relentless pressure from the Jamaican bowlers. Jamaica chased down the target with ease, anchored by an unbeaten 30 from Abigail Bryce, sealing a seven-wicket victory and a psychological edge heading into the championship decider.

For Guyana, today’s final is about redemption-not just for Friday’s loss, but also for last year’s runner-up finish, where Jamaica’s clinical performance denied them the title. The Guyanese squad has shown remarkable form throughout the tournament, with bowlers like Nyia Latchman, Sheneta Grimmond, and Plaffiana Millington leading the charge, while batters such as Realeanna Grimmond, Shabika Gajnabi, and Campbelle have delivered key contributions.

Jamaica, meanwhile, arrives at the final after a mixed campaign, suffering two losses but demonstrating resilience and firepower when it matters most. All-rounder Chinelle Henry, who has already scored the tournament’s only unbeaten century, remains a major threat, supported by consistent wicket-takers Jodian Morgan and Vanessa Watts.

With both teams boasting depth and match-winners in their ranks, the T20 Blaze final promises to be a fiercely contested battle. Guyana will be eager to overturn their recent defeat and claim championship honours, while Jamaica looks to defend their crown and assert their dominance once again.

Cricket fans across the region will be watching closely as these two rivals vie for T20 Blaze glory in what is expected to be a thrilling contest.
