Guyana Harpy Eagles Celebrated Upon Festive Return as Regional Four-Day Champions

    Published on

The Guyana Harpy Eagles were met with jubilant celebrations upon their return home after clinching the West Indies Regional Four-Day Championship title for the third consecutive year. Fans gathered in large numbers to honor the team’s remarkable achievement, which marks their eighth championship win in ten seasons.

The Eagles secured the title following a hard-fought draw against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at Queen’s Park Oval on April 12. Despite the stalemate, their consistent performance throughout the tournament ensured they finished atop the standings with an unassailable 126.6 points, comfortably ahead of their closest rivals.

Led by captain Tevin Imlach, the team demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience across all seven matches of the season. Key performances from players such as Raymond Perez, Kevlon Anderson, and veteran spinner Veerasammy Permaul were instrumental in their success. The bowling duo of Ashmead Nedd and Permaul also played pivotal roles in crucial moments, including the final match where they claimed seven wickets between them.

The festive atmosphere in Georgetown reflected the pride and admiration of Guyanese cricket fans, who view the Harpy Eagles as a symbol of national excellence. “This victory is not just for the team but for all of Guyana,” one supporter exclaimed. “They’ve made us proud once again.”

President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali joined in congratulating the team, praising their dedication and contribution to Guyana’s cricketing legacy. “The Harpy Eagles have shown what hard work and teamwork can achieve,” he said during a reception held in their honor. “They are champions both on and off the field.”

The victory comes amidst challenges, including fines imposed on Permaul and Anderson for ball-tampering during the final match. However, these incidents did little to dampen the celebratory mood as fans and officials alike focused on the team’s overall success.

Looking ahead, the Guyana Harpy Eagles aim to continue their dominance in regional cricket while nurturing young talent to sustain their winning tradition. For now, they bask in the glory of another championship triumph, celebrated by a nation that cherishes their achievements.
