    Blair Beats Persaud to Boys’ U-20 400m Title at National Schools Championships

    In a thrilling finale at the National Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships, Afi Blair secured a stunning victory in the boys’ under-20 400m event. Representing the Government Technical Institute, Blair clocked an impressive 48.82 seconds, narrowly edging out his rival Kaidon Persaud of Linden Foundation, who finished with a time of 49.01 seconds. Jomal Kesney from the New Amsterdam Technical Institute completed the podium with a time of 50.50 seconds.

    Blair’s victory marked a significant achievement, as he outperformed Persaud, a 2024 CARIFTA Games medalist. The competition, held at the National Track and Field Facility in West Coast Demerara, showcased the exceptional talent and dedication of young athletes in Guyana.

    The championships have been a highlight of the local sports calendar, featuring a range of events that test speed, endurance, and agility. The event is part of a broader initiative to promote athletic excellence and provide a structured platform for young athletes to develop their skills.

    In other notable performances, Kenetha Fraser of McKenzie High School won the girls’ under-20 400m with a time of 1:01.27 seconds, while Jada LaCruz dominated the girls’ under-17 category with a time of 1:02.45 seconds.

    The championships continue to play a vital role in identifying and nurturing talent, aligning with international standards and fostering a strong foundation for the future of sports in Guyana.
