Archery Guyana has extended its commendations to Lucas Chung for his impressive performance at the 2nd Qualifier for the Junior Pan American Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Chung, who represented Guyana in the Men’s U21 Recurve category, demonstrated remarkable skill and determination throughout the competition.
Despite facing stiff competition from some of the best young archers in the Americas, Chung held his own, showcasing his talent and resilience on the international stage. His personal best score of 580 in the competition highlighted his growth as an athlete and his potential for future success.
In the elimination rounds, Chung initially led against Jacob Mighty of Jamaica but ultimately lost in a closely contested match. Despite this setback, Chung remains optimistic and committed to his sport. He expressed gratitude for the experience, noting that it provided invaluable learning opportunities and connections with fellow archers from across the region.
Archery Guyana President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon praised Chung for his dedication and sportsmanship, emphasizing that his journey is just beginning. She acknowledged the support of Chung’s family and the Guyana Olympic Association, which has been instrumental in providing opportunities for young athletes like Chung to compete internationally.
The experience gained by Chung in Buenos Aires is expected to propel him forward in his athletic career, with Archery Guyana reaffirming its commitment to supporting his future endeavors. Despite missing out on a wildcard spot, which went to Puerto Rico, Chung’s performance has raised hopes for Guyana’s archery program and its potential to produce top-level athletes in the sport.
