Education Minister Priya Manickchand, alongside Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh, inaugurated the new Onderneeming School in Region Two yesterday. The event was also attended by Mr. Daniel Best, President of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

In his remarks, delivered on behalf of His Excellency President Irfaan Ali, Minister Singh emphasized the Government’s commitment to providing every child, including those with disabilities, access to quality primary and secondary education. He highlighted that these educational opportunities are being implemented throughout Guyana.

Moreover, he pointed out that the inauguration of the school exemplifies the tangible benefits of the CDB’s initiatives and the positive impact these efforts have on the community. The Finance Minister took the opportunity to express gratitude for the Bank’s financial support for the project and acknowledged the strong partnership between the Government of Guyana and the CDB.

The contract for constructing the Onderneeming Primary School, valued at $130,821,128, was signed in March 2024 between the Government of Guyana, represented by the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF), and Builder Hardware, General Supplies & Construction. The BNTF is a grant-funded program by the CDB, aimed at alleviating poverty by addressing the barriers to equitable access to quality education. Before the establishment of this facility, students in Onderneeming had no primary school to attend.
