    Published on

In a recent address to residents of Sheet Anchor Village in East Canje, Berbice, Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh underscored the Peoples Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) commitment to empowering young people through long-term initiatives. The party’s youth policy is designed to equip youths with the skills, experience, and opportunities necessary for economic independence and leadership roles in the future.

    Background of the Policy

Since assuming office in 2020, the PPP/C government has launched several programs aimed at empowering youths. These include the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL), the Youth Innovation Project of Guyana, the Guyana Coders Initiative, and the revamp of the Board of Industrial Training programs. Additionally, the Guyana Youth in Agriculture Programme has been instrumental in engaging young people in the agricultural sector.

    Key Initiatives

    1. Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL): This initiative provides access to online education, enabling Guyanese to pursue higher education and vocational training from reputable international institutions.
    2. Youth Innovation Project of Guyana: Focused on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among young people, this project supports startups and provides resources for youth-led ventures.
    3. Guyana Coders Initiative: This program aims to develop coding skills among Guyanese youths, preparing them for careers in the tech industry.
    4. Board of Industrial Training (BIT) Revamp: The BIT has been revamped to offer more relevant and modern vocational training, aligning with current industry needs.
    5. Guyana Youth in Agriculture Programme: This initiative encourages young people to engage in agriculture, providing training and support for those interested in pursuing careers in this sector.

    Long-Term Vision

Dr. Singh emphasized that these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to ensure that young people are equipped to lead both the party and the nation in the future. The focus is on creating opportunities for economic independence, quality jobs, and leadership roles. By investing in youth development, the government aims to build a sustainable and prosperous future for Guyana.

    Community Engagement

During his address, Dr. Singh urged the community to remain vigilant and informed, especially in an election year like 2025. He highlighted the importance of supporting policies and initiatives that have delivered tangible benefits to the people of Guyana

The PPP/C’s commitment to empowering youths reflects a strategic approach to building a strong foundation for Guyana’s future. By focusing on long-term empowerment through education, innovation, and economic opportunities, the party aims to ensure that young people are well-positioned to drive national development and prosperity. As Guyana continues on its path of rapid economic expansion, the role of its youth will be pivotal in shaping the country’s trajectory.
