Over 100 new automated teller machines (ATMs) are set to be introduced across the country, providing credit card holders from brands like Visa and MasterCard with easy access to cash. This initiative is being launched by Be Payments (Be!), a financial technology firm that was established in Guyana in June 2024 and is authorized by the Bank of Guyana as a payment service provider.
The ATMs will be strategically located in high-traffic areas, including supermarkets, shopping malls, gas stations, hospitals, and police stations. Be! will manage the cash replenishment for these machines, which will accept cards from major international networks, including Amex, Visa, MasterCard, PIX, and UPI. The company has committed to ensuring that the fees for ATM transactions remain competitive with current market rates.
The goal is to position these ATMs in every administrative region of the country. Sadiya Yahya, the company’s Public Relations Officer, mentioned plans to introduce mobile ATM services via specially designed trucks to serve various communities. “We will create a schedule to visit different areas, such as Black Bush Polder, Yakasari, and other agricultural regions, enabling individuals with limited or no access to traditional banking services to utilize our facilities. Our focus is on enhancing financial inclusion, and we will ensure that the community is well-informed about the service,†she said.
