Guyana and U.S. Trade Surpasses US$4.7 Billion, Setting New Record

    Published on

Bilateral trade between Guyana and the United States has reached unprecedented heights, with the total value of physical goods exchanged surpassing US$4.7 billion over the past year—a milestone that underscores the rapidly expanding economic partnership between the two nations.

At a reception celebrating the United States’ 249th Independence Day in Georgetown, U.S. Ambassador to Guyana Nicole Theriot highlighted the significance of this record, noting that the number of American companies collaborating with Guyanese partners continues to rise. “Over the past year, we’ve reached another milestone. Bilateral trade in physical goods alone surpassed US$4.7 billion, a new record,” Ambassador Theriot stated. “The number of U.S. companies working with Guyanese partners continues to grow, along with sustained investment across many sectors.”

The ambassador pointed to a series of new ventures that have flourished in recent months, including the launch of a U.S.-branded hotel, innovative educational partnerships, and the introduction of industrial 3D printing and advanced machining services in Guyana. She emphasized that the partnership is not slowing down, with ongoing collaboration on critical infrastructure projects such as the transformative deep-sea port, road, and rail initiatives—investments expected to have a generational impact on Guyana’s development.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali, addressing the same event, reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties and diversifying trade relations. “As our country actively engages in strengthening our framework for bilateral trade, we continue to be optimistic about the diversification of our trade relations,” President Ali said. He also highlighted shared priorities such as peace, security, and the fight against transnational threats, including illicit gold smuggling and efforts to maintain regional stability.

The relationship extends beyond commerce, with robust cooperation in law enforcement, military training, and security initiatives. Ambassador Theriot noted that military and security collaboration between the two countries is at its strongest level ever, with joint operations and capacity-building efforts strengthening Guyana’s role as a regional leader in stability and security.

As Guyana and the United States look to the future, both governments are committed to building on this momentum, fostering a legacy of growth, innovation, and shared prosperity. The record-breaking trade figures reflect not only the strength of the economic partnership but also the deepening trust and cooperation between the two nations.
