Indian-born Australian all-rounder Nikhil Chaudhary is poised to make his debut with the Hobart Hurricanes XI in the highly anticipated ExxonMobil Global Super League (GSL) 2025, set to take place at the Guyana National Stadium from July 10 to 18.
Chaudhary, a leg-spinning all-rounder known for his explosive batting and sharp bowling, joins a formidable Hurricanes squad fresh off their Big Bash League (BBL) championship triumph. The GSL, a showcase of T20 champions from top leagues worldwide, will see the Hurricanes vying for a lucrative US$1 million prize and the prestige of being the first Australian side to claim the GSL title on Caribbean soil.
Reflecting on his preparation, Chaudhary emphasized the importance of fitness and adaptability, especially given the spin-friendly conditions expected in Guyana. “My preparation is very simple; I have been doing this for the last 10 years… just watch the ball and hit the ball. Maybe it can be a bit different in Guyana because obviously there’s a bit more spin there, a bit more turn, so the sweeps might be coming in too much there,†he shared ahead of the tournament.
Chaudhary will spearhead the Hurricanes’ spin department alongside seasoned internationals Mohammad Nabi and Mohammad Nawaz. Their combined skills promise to offer both control and firepower in the middle overs, complementing a pace attack led by Jackson Bird, Billy Stanlake, and West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith, who brings valuable local experience from his tenure with the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
The Hurricanes’ batting line-up features dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman Ben McDermott, whose international T20 experience adds depth and leadership to the side. The squad, coached by Jeff Vaughan, is a blend of Tasmanian talent and overseas stars, all eager to test themselves against the best in a new environment.
The Hobart Hurricanes XI will open their GSL campaign against the Dubai Capitals on July 12, followed by matches against the Rangpur Riders, Central Stags, and home favourites Guyana Amazon Warriors. With Chaudhary’s debut and the Hurricanes’ strong roster, fans can expect a thrilling display of cricket as the team chases GSL glory in Guyana.
