‘One Guyana’ King and Queen of the Sand Football: Final 3 of 8 Male Teams for Quarterfinals to Be Decided Saturday

    Published on

The third edition of the ‘One Guyana’ King and Queen of the Sand Football tournament is set for a dramatic conclusion to its group stage this Saturday, June 21, at the PPP-C Linden office ground. With five of the eight spots in the men’s quarterfinals already secured, the final three teams will be determined in a series of crucial matches.

High Stakes in the King Segment

The men’s (King) competition has seen fierce rivalry across all groups. As of Friday, Hard Knocks and One Syde (Group A), LA Ballers and Team Minerals (Group C), and Bomberz (Group D) have already punched their tickets to the knockout round. In Group B, Spaniards, Young Gunners, and Foundation Family are all tied on seven points, but only two can advance. Spaniards, with a superior goal difference, will face UDK Victors, while Young Gunners take on Lil Ballers. Foundation Family, having completed their matches, must now wait and hope results go their way.

Group D’s final spot is also up for grabs. YMCA and Goal IQ are level on six points, separated by just a single goal in goal difference. Their head-to-head clash will be the last match of the night and is expected to be a thrilling decider for the remaining quarterfinal berth.

    Saturday’s Decisive Fixtures

The final group stage matches are scheduled as follows:

    • Young Gunners vs Lil Ballers (18:30 hrs)
    • GDF vs Circuitville (Queens, 19:10 hrs)
    • HH Ballers vs Turf President (20:00 hrs)
    • Speightland vs Rockstone (Queens, 20:50 hrs)
    • Spaniards vs UDK Victors (21:40 hrs)
    • LA Ballers vs Team Mineral (22:30 hrs)
    • YMCA vs Goal IQ (23:20 hrs)

    Queens Segment: Semifinalists Almost Set

On the women’s side, GDF and Hururu have already secured their places in the semifinals from Group A. In Group B, Iconic Ballers have advanced with a perfect record, while defending champions Speightland are expected to seal the remaining spot, barring any upsets in their final group game against Rockstone.

    Anticipation Builds

With over 70 teams competing in this year’s tournament, excitement is high as the group stage comes to a close. The knockout rounds promise even more intensity as the top teams battle for the coveted ‘One Guyana’ King and Queen of the Sand titles and over four million dollars in prizes.

All eyes will be on Linden this Saturday night as the final quarterfinalists are decided and the road to the championship heats up.
