    Blue Water Girls U15 Championships: Round of 16 Set for September

    The Blue Water Girls U15 Inter-Secondary Schools Football Championships is gearing up for its highly anticipated Round of 16, scheduled to kick off on September 27, 2025. The tournament, which began its preliminary stage on May 10, has already made history with record participation and the inclusion of new regions.

    Record Participation and Regional Expansion

    This year’s championship saw a significant increase in participating schools, with 75 teams—21 more than last year—competing from across the country. Notably, Region 1 (Mabaruma District) made its debut, contributing three new schools to the tournament. The expansion underscores the organisers’ commitment to broadening access to girls’ football, especially in hinterland communities.

    Preliminary Stage Highlights

    The preliminary round, which wrapped up on June 7, featured 131 matches and an impressive 233 goals. Regional champions were crowned in Regions 1, 4, 6, and 7, with standout performances from schools such as Wauna Primary Top, President’s College, and Marian Academy. President’s College dominated Region 4, going unbeaten and showcasing top talents like Luiza Pugsley, who finished as the region’s leading scorer.

    The Round of 16 Format

    Sixteen schools have advanced to the next stage, grouped into four pools of four teams each. The group stage will be played across four different regions, ensuring widespread community engagement and support. The top two teams from each group will progress to the quarterfinals.

    Groupings for the Round of 16

    • Group 1 (Region 2): Waramuri Primary Top, Wauna Primary Top, Abram Zuil Secondary, Charity Secondary
    • Group 2 (Region 10): Christianburg Wismar Secondary, Mackenzie High School, Dora Secondary, Annai Secondary
    • Group 3 (Region 5): Bushlot Secondary, Canje Secondary, Campbellville Secondary, President’s College
    • Group 4 (Region 4/NTC): Bartica Secondary, Marian Academy, Vreed en Hoop Secondary, Westminster Secondary

Organisers and sponsors have reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing talent, empowering girls, and strengthening the national football programme through school-based competitions.
