Police in Mahdia uncovered a significant quantity of cannabis during a routine foot patrol on Wednesday, adding to ongoing efforts to curb the illegal drug trade in the region.

    Discovery During Patrol

Between 11:10 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., two officers conducted stop-and-search operations in the Central Mahdia area and around the Mahdia Arcade. While several individuals were searched for illegal firearms, ammunition, and narcotics, nothing unlawful was found on their persons.

However, the patrol took a turn when officers extended their search to an abandoned yard near the Mahdia Arcade. There, they discovered three bulky plastic bags hidden inside an old refrigerator and a black garbage bag. Upon inspection, the bags were found to contain six transparent plastic parcels and numerous small ziplock bags, all filled with leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis. Among the haul was also a package labeled “Gummy Cannabis Flower,†believed to be an infused product.

    Seizure and Investigation

The narcotics were photographed at the scene and transported to the Mahdia Police Station, where they were weighed and confirmed to total 800 grams. Investigations into the origin of the drugs and those responsible for concealing them are ongoing.

    Ongoing Anti-Drug Efforts

This latest discovery highlights the continued vigilance of law enforcement in Mahdia and the broader Region Eight, as authorities intensify their crackdown on illegal narcotics. Police have urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities as they work to keep communities safe.
