Marlon Jones, a 38-year-old taxi driver from Lot 106 Third Avenue, Bartica, has been formally charged with receiving stolen articles, following his arrest by police earlier this week.

    Arrest and Charges

Jones was apprehended on June 15, 2025, after investigations linked him to items reported stolen from Chinese national Jianmei Qiu. The charge, filed under Section 237(1) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01, alleges that Jones knowingly received property that had been unlawfully taken.

The accused appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read. Jones pleaded not guilty to the offence.

    Bail and Next Steps

Jones was granted bail in the sum of $80,000. The case has been adjourned and is set to continue on July 21, 2025.

    Community Response

The incident has sparked renewed calls for vigilance regarding stolen property in the Bartica area. Law enforcement officials have urged residents to be cautious when purchasing or accepting items and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities as investigations continue.
