“We Cannot Gamble with Our Future”: President Ali Urges Guyanese to Reject “Experimental Leadership” Ahead of 2025 Elections

    Published on

As Guyana approaches the pivotal 2025 General and Regional Elections, President Dr. Irfaan Ali has issued a passionate call for national unity and prudent decision-making, urging citizens to reject what he termed “experimental leadership” and instead consolidate the country’s recent gains under the current administration123.

    A Call for Responsible Leadership

Speaking before a large audience at the 77th anniversary commemoration of the Enmore Martyrs, President Ali reminded Guyanese of the nation’s hard-won progress and cautioned against risking it on untested political alternatives12. “We cannot gamble with our future. This is a period of consolidation for a better Guyana. It is not the time for experiments. It is the time to build upon our gains and lead every family to full prosperity,” he declared, emphasizing the importance of stable and visionary leadership1.

Reflecting on the Past, Focusing on the Future

President Ali drew sharp contrasts between the current government’s achievements and the previous administration, highlighting what he described as economic regression and hardships under the former APNU+AFC coalition12. He pointed to the country’s economic growth, improved infrastructure, and expanded social programs as evidence of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C)’s commitment to national development and prosperity31.

He also noted the increasing number of former critics and rivals who have embraced the PPP/C’s philosophy, attributing this shift to the administration’s delivery on its promises and the tangible progress experienced by citizens across the country31.

    Commitment to Democratic Values

President Ali reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to upholding democracy and safeguarding the integrity of the upcoming elections45. He assured Guyanese that the government would adhere strictly to constitutional timelines and support the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to ensure free, fair, and transparent polls45.

    Building on Progress

Looking ahead, President Ali outlined a vision focused on continued investment in vital sectors such as education, infrastructure, and economic diversification67. He called on citizens to judge political parties by their track records and to demand trust, honor, and dignity from those seeking public office2.

    A Pledge to the People

Concluding his address, President Ali recommitted the PPP/C to serving the people of Guyana with unity, dignity, and shared prosperity. He urged all Guyanese to remain vigilant, uphold the nation’s achievements, and make choices that will secure a stable and prosperous future for generations to come123.
