In a decisive crackdown on illegal drug cultivation, police officers on Friday destroyed two large cannabis farms at Yarrowkabra Backdam, along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway, eradicating marijuana valued at more than $21 million.

The operation, led by a woman Deputy Superintendent of the Guyana Police Force, targeted two separate farms spanning a combined three acres. The first, a two-acre plot, contained approximately 4,500 mature cannabis plants ranging from three to five feet in height. Officers also discovered a makeshift camp on the premises, where a barrel holding about 140 pounds of dried cannabis was found.

The second farm, measuring one acre, was home to around 1,500 cannabis plants, each standing between one and two feet tall. Both the cultivated plants and the processed marijuana were destroyed on site by fire, effectively removing the illicit crop from circulation.

Police estimate the total street value of the narcotics destroyed in this operation to be approximately $21,083,664. Despite the scale of the bust, no arrests were made during the raid.

Law enforcement officials have reiterated their commitment to dismantling illegal drug operations and curbing the spread of narcotics in the region. The destruction of these farms marks a significant blow to the local cannabis trade and underscores ongoing efforts to combat drug-related activities in Guyana.
