Pensioner Killed in Suspected Hit-and-Run at Linden

    Published on

A quiet Linden community was left in shock and mourning after a tragic suspected hit-and-run claimed the life of a local pensioner late Sunday night.

The victim, 72-year-old Harold James of Wismar, was reportedly attempting to cross the main road near the Mackenzie Market when he was struck by a speeding vehicle. Eyewitnesses say the driver failed to stop, leaving James lying on the roadway as bystanders rushed to his aid.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly, but James was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who are calling for better road safety measures and more frequent police patrols in the area, especially during nighttime hours.

Family members described James as a well-known and respected elder in the community, often seen helping neighbors and sharing stories of Linden’s early days. “He didn’t deserve to go like this,†said his niece, visibly distraught. “We just want justice for Uncle Harold.â€

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the driver involved. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby businesses and have urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or noticed a damaged vehicle in the area to come forward.

The suspected hit-and-run has reignited concerns about reckless driving and pedestrian safety in Linden. Community leaders are urging motorists to exercise caution and for authorities to implement stricter enforcement of traffic laws.

As the investigation continues, Harold James’s family and friends are left grappling with their sudden loss, hoping that those responsible will soon be brought to justice.
